To be a volunteer at Gorgie City farm you must be 13 years of age. This is the law. Volunteers help run the farm by looking after the animals and poultry (birds) and doing any other jobs needing done. You will have a member of staff to teach you what to do and supervise you. There is a long waiting list. Volunteering on the farm is very popular.

Calling all parents and grandparents. There are lots of families who would benefit from your invaluable experience. Offering friendly support, reassurance and basic practical help can make a huge difference. Your role could range from being a sensitive listener, someone who understands the pressures that come with bringing up children, or simply helping a family to have fun together - in the park or at soft play, for example. Volunteering could involve encouraging first-time parents to gain confidence in their own parenting abilities. Visits may also be an opportunity to help socially isolated families to get to know their local community. Families with twins, parents with disabilities, single mothers, those without other family members nearby all benefit from the input of our volunteers. Appropriate training is provided through a short course and expenses are reimbursed. If you are able to give a few hours each week - or maybe only two - Home-Start Leith & North East Edinburgh would be delighted to hear from you.
